"I didn't plan on being a single mom, but you have to deal with the cards you are dealt the best way you can.” - Tichina Arnold
Being a single mom is not easy. I am grateful that my children are not very young. I honestly do not know what I would do if they were. I give praise to the mothers out there raising very young children alone. It’s truly a challenging journey.
In January 2022, I moved to a new location. I moved in with my sister. However, I didn’t consider it truly living on my own. For me, that feeling came when I moved out of my sister’s house and into my own place. That was when I felt truly independent.
My children and I often have disagreements. We work through them, learning from each other in the process. I work a full-time job and try my best to be a full-time mom. It’s not always easy, but I’m determined to raise my children well.
My children see their father every other weekend. They also spend some holidays and a full month in the summer with him. When they’re not with me, I get some “me time.” I am grateful for this break, as I know many single moms never get a moment to themselves.
One challenge of living on my own is managing all the bills. I only have one full-time job, along with a small amount of child support, which isn’t enough. I have to be careful about overspending. Now that I have just one income, I need to budget wisely. I focus on essentials and try to avoid unnecessary expenses. Overtime hours help make ends meet, so I work them whenever possible.
If you want to hear more about how I budget, let me know in the comments below and I'll wrote a post about it.
Being a single mom is tough, but we do what we need to do for our children. I do my best for them and myself, striving for stability and happiness along the way.
